Yanfeng Seating
As one of the world’s leading automotive suppliers, Yanfeng Seating recognized both its responsibility to its customers and the opportunity to advance its sustainability goals by transitioning to renewable energy. Partnering with ForeFront Power, Yanfeng installed a 630 kilowatt-DC (kW DC) solar energy system that will offset over 40% of its San Luis Potosí facility’s electrical consumption with renewable energy generation.
The project required innovative integration of rooftop and parking canopy solar arrays within an active manufacturing campus. This dual design not only maximizes energy output, but also delivers functional benefits such as shaded parking for staff and visitors. ForeFront Power’s experience in developing tailored, industrial-scale solutions ensured that the project met Yanfeng’s operational requirements without disruption to daily production.
Yanfeng’s decision to pursue this project was driven by its net zero emissions target as well as customer expectations. Their primary client, BMW, along with Audi and Volkswagen, had set clear ESG requirements around renewable energy sourcing. This solar energy system is designed to generate 1,169,000 kilowatt-hours of renewable electricity each year—enough to power roughly 440 Mexican homes.
The environmental benefits of this clean energy production translates to Yanfeng offsetting approximately 495 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, equivalent to removing over 215 diesel-fueled cars from the road or planting 23,500 trees.
Developed under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with ForeFront Power, the project required no upfront capital investment. Instead, Yanfeng benefits from a fixed, below-utility electricity rate over the 10-year contract period. This structure provides cost certainty and shields the company from market volatility, while yielding an estimated $26 million pesos ($1.4 million USD) in savings over the next decade.
