AISIN Manufacturing Illinois

AISIN Manufacturing Illinois

The Aisin portfolio includes three rooftop solar arrays totaling 1.07 MW of solar energy

The Problem

Aisin Illinois needed to cut energy costs and reduce supply chain emissions as part of a new sustainability initiative across its three Marion manufacturing facilities.

Our Solution

ForeFront Power developed a 1.07 MW rooftop solar portfolio of more than 2,900 panels across AMI, AEIL, and ALM, leveraging Illinois’ Adjustable Block Program incentives to deliver clean on-site power.

Results

The systems now power operations at all three plants, are expected to save Aisin about $1 million in energy costs over 15 years, and significantly shrink the company’s carbon footprint while supporting customer and utility sustainability goals.

Located 300 miles south of Chicago in Marion, Ill., the Aisin portfolio includes three rooftop solar arrays totaling 1.07 MW of solar energy sold to Aisin Illinois, a subsidiary of global Tier One auto supplier and largest transmission manufacturer in the world, AISIN Group. The clean electricity from more than 2,900 solar panels will power the operations at three Aisin facilities: Aisin Manufacturing Illinois (AMI), Aisin Electronics Illinois (AEIL), and Aisin Light Metals (ALM). This project with ForeFront Power marks the first step in a new sustainability initiative for Aisin. Along with significantly reducing the carbon footprint of its supply chain, the Aisin portfolio is expected to save the company a million dollars in energy costs over the next 15 years.

The Aisin Illinois solar portfolio received incentives through the state’s Adjustable Block Program (ABP), which was established by the Future Energy Jobs Act to support the development of new photovoltaic distributed generation and community solar projects in Illinois.

“We’re not just cutting emissions and costs with solar. We’re creating a more sustainable society and better serving the communities in which we operate,” said Jeff Copeland, general manager of environmental safety and energy at Aisin World Corp. of America. “We’re helping our customers and our local utility meet sustainability targets as well. All in all, investing in solar energy makes us a better community partner.”
